3/16 Trail Update: Respect the Trails - Don't Ride.

3/16/2014

The RideNox Council was out near the Tower Road trailhead today working on a trailside improvement and  wanted to thank all of those who are respecting the current trail closure.  Only a few have ridden (most likely on Saturday, 3/15, despite the obviously extremely muddy conditions so close to the thaw and they have left severe rutting waiting to trap upcoming rainfall.

In fact, the few out today themselves acknowledged the trails were in no way ridable with mud, very slippery patches of remaining ice in shady areas, and numerous cedar trees partially blocking the way.  Even "drier" areas freezing a little on colder nights are turning slimy by mid-morning at the latest now - the cold weather riding season's basically done.

Please check back here weekly during the next month to month-and-a-half to see how conditions hopefully improve.

Just curious, can the trails be taped off or signage placed at the Trailheads when conditions are not good for riding?
Hopefully the people riding in poor conditions are just 'not conscious' of the damage they are doing, and may refrain from doing so if marked? Unfortunately, not everyone checks here before heading out to ride.

Thanks Again to the Whole Crew (RoxNox Council) jp

JP,
The "Trails closed during wet conditions" sign on the kiosk is to serve just that purpose. We have "taped off" and placed signs only to have them torn down and disregarded. One can only try to educate, but ignorance is seemingly endless. Most are conscious and for that we are grateful... as for the rest, selfishness knows no bounds.
Thanks JP

schwartz, thanks for the clarification.

" We have "taped off" and placed signs only to have them torn down and disregarded. "

Well that's not ignorance then.
Selfishness and Complete Disreguard for the work the Trail Builders do to give them a place to ride it is, without a doubt.
Pray for Karma !
