Great weather today aided in efforts to continue eliminating wet areas on South Park deep in the cedars between the Bump Track and Gnome Home. Work will continue towards the south and east over the next few weeks until the last significant problem area near the Gnome Home is resolved.
Thanks to Eastern Mountain Sports in Warrington for coming out and volunteering some time to help work on the trails. They helped out with some bench-cutting and drainage maintenance on Tuesday morning. Check out the store and some more photos here: http://www.facebook.com/EMSWarrington Work today focused on improving drainage on a stretch of the South Park trail between the Bump Track and the Gnome Home. Plans are to continue eliminating seasonal wet spots working south and east on South Park towards the Gnome Home over the next few weeks while dry, sunny conditions prevail.
Winds from last week's thunderstorm left a number of minor obstructions throughout the trail system requiring removal this afternoon. Two fallen trees on the Jaywalk-South Park connector and Lower Jaywalk were taken out.Several "leaner" type trees partially obstructing the trail were cut back on Upper Cold Spot, Upper EWR, and South Park. A number of grapevines newly hanging at eyelevel on Upper EWR were trimmed off as well.
Drainage work was completed for the time being today on Upper Jaywalk. The major focus of work for approximately the next month will involve the South Park loop between the "Bump Track" and Gnome Home. Drainage improvements were also made today to a section of trail roughly a hundred yards southeast of the "Bump Track".
