This season has seen great leaps forward in production of large scale improvements to the trail tread and storm water management. Implementation of mechanized equipment brought forth through donations received from a generous and thankful user group has made this possible. We (RIDENOX COUNCIL) give thanks for all the positive feedback and seemingly endless revenue of a diverse user population. We've come a long way from the days of 2" pick axe blades and much sweat and grunt labor exerted by the few. It proves that the continuity, vision and determination of a group can accomplish great things.
Over the course of this season we have seen young, old, families, enthusiasts, dusted off garage relics of yesteryear cyclists and an influx of department store start-ups (as evidenced by the immense collection of reflector ejectors we have gathered), not to mention the countless hikers and dog walkers also making use of the trail system. Needless to say, we take great pride in being able to produce such a favorable environment for all to enjoy. As the season winds down, be sure to enjoy crisp days, crunchy leaves and the beauty of our surroundings. Remember to respect other users and be aware that hunting is permitted in our area of the park, so wear bright colors and obey trail closures on posted hunting days. Also, know that when the trail tread loses its integrity, as it does every year, the time to take your riding elsewhere has come. Responsibility and accountability is yours. Respect your favorite trail. Thanks for a great season, RIDENOX COUNCIL This past weekend the RIDENOX Council was out undertaking significant work improving both drainage and the quality of the trail tread on the central portion of Upper Hammer on Saturday, 8/2, and the central portion of Upper Jaywalk on Sunday, 8/3.
Furthermore, the RIDENOX Council has made an effort to dramatically clear lines of sight on all turns at and near any worksite by removing invasive vegetation in recent weeks. This policy will continue indefinitely until the trail corridor has been significantly widened in all critical areas. Visit the gallery for more photos > -RIDENOX Council The other half of the berming/drainage work on a stretch of Upper EWR near the dam access road was completed today including the clearing of brush in the turn for enhanced visibility in both directions. Work on Upper EWR is now complete to improve the riding experience via drainage improvements and erosion control features.
The RIDENOX Council would like to make all riders aware that significant trail work will occur on the central portion of Upper Hammer next SaturdayAND Sunday mornings/early afternoons and that all trail users should use caution in this area. On Sunday the Ridenox crew rehabilitated a sweeping downhill turn, filling erosion runners and incorporating water control features with some Grade A subsoil.
Nearly all of the South Park loop was thoroughly trimmed today along with a little work cleaning out some drains in a few remaining muddy spots. The Tower Road parking lot area was also trimmed today as well. With this trimming completed today, virtually the entire trail system has been trimmed once for the season. A second cutting will be undertaken when deemed necessary.
The RIDENOX Council was out this past Sunday working on a significant drainage issue in the central portion of Upper EWR. Trail conditions look great with nearly all stretches trimmed so get out there and enjoy!
The Ridenox crew repaired and enhanced two badly eroded runs in the upper Eastern Woods trail. Special thanks to our fellow trail users who helped volunteer today.
We also provided additional signage for those who may have lost their way. The trails have really dried in the last 24 hours including Upper Jaywalk although a few wet spots continue in places along that section.
The closure continues on Upper EWR for the time being. |
